In MME mode, the reason you are losing time is due to the MME driver and latency. Your best bet is ASIO or WDM. You will have to experiment with buffers in ASIO and you must make sure that whatever your samples are in Sonar, (example: 64, 128, 256, 512) that they read the exact same in your ASIO control panel or it will not work right.

You will have nothing but trouble trying to record audio with a on board sound card. You can do a lot with on board but I recommend a proper ASIO audio interface if recording audio is part of your plans. # 1 is your tracks will not be in sync without an ASIO driver.
