SigmaTel High Definition Audio CODEC does not work (No sound/no audio) I just upgraded my Inspiron 9400 to Vista Ultimate and everything works great except the SigmaTel sound driver. The device driver is install since it shows up on Device Manager but when I select "Sound" on the control panel it says "No audio devices are installed."

Usb speakers contain their own DAC, and as such are a separate audio device from the Sigmatel audio system, so in effect 2 different audio systems are not working. The usb system doesn't have anything to do with the Sigmatel audio driver or anything like that. Other than Windows the 2 systems don't have much in common. So that's interesting.

Well, if you had sound before, it's not a Vista error/bug. Go into the device manager delete it, and manually reinstall the drive - press "I will choose the driver" instead of "Windows will search and find...." There should be two drivers, one is the original one you downloaded. Try one then the other, one of them has to work.
