I'm posting my fix here because I was unable to find it in other threads, most people suggested new HDMI cables. The problem for me was two fold. 1. Open the Menu. Go to Initial Setup, Input Settings, Output select. Set Output select to "fixed". If it is set to variable, the audio menus are greyed out. 2. Go to Audio Settings.

My Sharp AQUOS LC-42LE620UT sound cuts out a few minutes after turning on and turns into a high-pitched hum. The picture changes also. Either will have some slight "static" lines that come in and out ... i have a beautiful 4 year old 46" Sharp Aquos TV with a sound problem. From time to time the sound goes out.

Go into the menu of the sharp, over to audio (or sound) and turn off HDMI audio. This should make the TV default to analog audio for that input. Or you may have to tell the sharp you using a DVI cable in the video menu which would make the TV default to the correct audio input. If this doesn't work try a different brand 3.5mm to RCA adaptor.

Just bought the Sharp 70". Fairly happy with the picture for a bare bones model but has one nagging problem that may cause me to return it. In order to get sound from the optical out to my Sony receiver, I have to open up the menu everytime and turn "PC-In" to "HDMI" and back to "PC-IN" in the audio menu in order to get sound to come out of the surround speakers.
