For 2012, the RNS system adds a larger hard drive, voice control of some functions, and HD radio tagging. For 2011, the RNS-510 was replaced on Golf, Jetta, and Sportwagen (Golf wagon) with the RNS-315, a less expensive system with a smaller screen and less features. I can't notice any big difference in sound quality between the Premium 7 OEM HU and the RNS-510; perhaps is the aftermarket equipment downstream. There's the new multimedia device (MDI) in the armrest compartment, with USB, AUX and full iPod control and display.

Today i swapped the RNS with a RCD510, and guess what the dynaudio amp and speakers came to life, the sound quality is amazing. The issue now is with my RNS510 unit, i was kind of suspecting it since the beginning because it just doesnt seem to work right (see above mentionned issues)

Looks like I'll stick with the rcd 510 until there is more choice. Quality is ok imo for a stock head unit. My problem is the variety of volume levels my mp3s have, some play nicely at 20 (loud) others not louder than 15. Again for a stock unit I'm happy enough, 90% of the time I can't crank it up anyway.

Currently got an Alpine W502E & PXE-H701 which is great for sound quality and ipod connection, but the bluetooth and navigation leave a lot to be desired, and the carkit doesn't work with my phone properly. You still can't beat the RNS-510 and Skoda OEM Integrated Bluetooth + MFD display and works a lot better than other setups.
