Dynaudio Focus 160 Review | HiFiReport.com

I think the Focus 160 Bookshelf Speaker is a good start. Because the Focus series is at the middle level of Dynaudio, it is strongly represented. The Dynaudio Focus 160 uses a 6.5-inch bass driver, which is moderate in size, not too small and suitable for rooms below medium and small.

Dynaudio’s Focus 160 speakers are just such a product. For speakers that stand just 35cm high, they deliver high volume and deep bass with impressive confidence. More than that, it’s the naturally fluid way they handle tracks such as Little Dragon’s rhythmically complex Precious that pleases.

Dynaudio recommends their own Stand4 for the Focus 160, but you might already have a pair of suitable stands. I used the now-discontinued Triangle Boomerangs, which place the speakers about 25" above the floor. The claimed frequency response is 40Hz–35kHz, ±3dB, and just like me and you, the Focus 160 is ported in the rear.

Dynaudio Focus 160 (£1800) Ed Selley | Oct 29, 2011. The updates to this long running range have proved particularly effective. Dynaudio’s Focus range was getting a bit long in the tooth so we weren’t surprised to learn when we requested the 140 for this test that it had just been replaced with this new model, the 160.

Dynaudio Special 40 or OLD Dynaudio Focus 160?

    https://forum.audiogon.com/discussions/dynaudio-special-40-or-old-dynaudio-focus-160
The esotar tweeter is much better than the esotec tweeter. Only the floorstander of the Focus line uses the esotar IIRC. That said the special 40 is kind of a weird animal, it uses prototype Esotar3 drivers, even more advanced than what's available with the Confidence C1 or Contour C20, but has a noisy, poorly braced enclosure, whereas I would expect the Focus 160 …

Dynaudio are well known for beautiful mid ranges, and my set up feels really well balanced now. I cannot comment on the Contours, but I seem to recall reading that the Focus 160s had excellent reviews and Dynaudio had some marketing issues because they were too close to Contours and were stealing customers from the Contours.

In the past I've owned Dynaudio Excite X32, X14 and Focus 160, and at my dealer's place I've listened to DM 2/7, DM3/7, X12, X16, X34, Contour 3.4 & some of their active speakers. I've also owned some BM5A MKII's btw. - active speakers for music production. IMO it's hard to find bad-sounding Dynaudio speakers. Just give them plenty of power. EDIT:
