I have onboard AC97 sound and Window 7 detected it no problem. I also have a 5.1 surround sound and have a Razer headset plugged into a "Y" on the back for sound, I do not have the front panel plugs. When I have the configuration set to 2 speakers I get sound through my headset no problems when using Ventrilo.
