I worked on porting the Cook decoder to rockbox (along with MT). It's a standard, barebones MDCT codec, pretty typical for that era (compare to WMA Standard or AC3). It sounds pretty good because at those bitrates it's not that hard for a pure MDCT codec to sound pretty good, particularly if you're comparing to MP3.

I just recently updated to RealPlayer v18.1.7.344. In the past after upgrading to a newer version, I was given the prompt that "RealPlayer needs to download additional software" when I attempted to play a RealAudio 3 tune, and RealPlayer, no matter what past versions, would download and install the Real Audio 3 codec, and everything would be fine.
