XLR, RCA, and the Magic of Matching Impedance - Audiophile ...

Think of impedance as the ratio of voltage to current. This is a property of the audio signal, not the cable, and not the connector. Audio …

The output impedance of most head units is between 300 and 500 ohms. The input impedance on most amplifiers is about 10,000 ohms. Using our …

Is impedance matching important? : Empirical Audio

    https://www.empiricalaudio.com/computer-audio/audio-faqs/should-i-match-impedances
The most important attributes for line-level RCA-type analog interconnections are: Low driver output impedance (5-10 ohms is good) Low interconnect capacitance (10-20pf/foot is good)Low receiver input capacitance (not usually published) Component input resistance isn't very critical, but it should probably be greater than 1K ohms. 10K-100K ohms ...

Output impedance – PS Audio

    https://www.psaudio.com/pauls-posts/output-impedance/
Output impedance refers to a device’s ability to deliver unrestricted current or power when passing a musical signal – it measures the amount of restriction or hold back of that signal. It is important to understand output impedance only as it is relative to the input impedance of whatever the amp is driving.

Impedance matching for DYI RCA attenutators

An ideal or perfect voltage source would have zero output impedance, and would be capable of supplying any amount of current demanded by the following load. However in practice audio signal sources only approximate to an ideal voltage source. For example, most solid-state signal sources have an output impedance of 100Ω or less.

As I recall, RCA plugs/jacks are more commonly known as phono plugs/jacks (not to be confused with phone plugs/jacks such as for headphones). As a designer you should never allow any significant DC offset on an audio output, which is why single-supply designs require DC-blocking output capacitors.

Input impedance vs hum/buzz | diyAudio

I notice there is noticeable 120Hz hum. If I remove the input rca cable, the hum is gone. The dynaco st-70 should be ok. I never used an amp with 470k input impedance like the st-70 has. The source is a modern AV receiver’s preamp-out. Both receiver and the st-70 have 2 prong power cords. Thus, there is no ground loop.
