The Purple I have used is the MC77. Regarding the Original Blackface and the Purple: I agree that they are quite different tonally. Most Black face 1176s are are a bit darker which can give the impression of being smoother. Since the Purple 77 is brighter, it makes it more exciting or flashier. So, for those reasons, I totally agree.
