The problem is that Pulseaudio's RAOP module only supports streaming over TCP, whereas the Apple TV (and most other AirPlay receivers) only supports UDP streams (see the AirTunes spec ).

2 Answers Active Oldest Score 2 Unfortunately at present the raop module shipped with pulseaudio does not support the newer RAOP2 protocol for AirPlay via UDP (rather than TCP). This however would be needed to stream audio to ShairPlay or newer AirPlay devices.

pulseaudio does not work with shairport as shairport only supports RAOP over UDP and not TCP which PulseAudio uses.
