    I did an update and I believe pulseaudio broke. yields 0 cards. $ fuser -v /dev/dsp Specified filename /dev/dsp does not exist. I am desperate over here, with no idea of what to do. UPDATE: I have uninstalled pulseaudio, deleted /etc/pulse and reinstalled it. Then, I enabled it as a user level service, and now my cards are detected.

    Re: /dev/dsp missing? Means we are in 2012 and the Linux sound system is ALSA/PulseAudio, not OSS. Use "padsp ut2004", "aoss ut2004" if you don't use PulseAudio or, if everything fails, load the kernel ALSA OSS emulation modules (in the later case be prepared to loss the sound on the rest of the system while playing the game).
