When I stream from my PC, I can stream 1080p mkv at full quality without lag. So my guess, your connection settings are wrong. You are using wifi? Either case, check the optimized data transfer under the main page where you see you're PS3. On wifi, I have 11 Mbits which is enough for nearly all 720p (or near quality).
