You just need to go to audio settings everytime in xmb and change where sound is outputted No you don't. There is a setting to output audio to both A/V and HDMI. I know this because turtle beach headphones do both mic and game audio and uses the A/V for the game audio. You can set the PS3 to dual output so there is no need to switch back and forth.
