1: setting component in menu. 2: rebooting ps2 and checking its set correctly. 3: checking and re-checking my connection. 4: taking the green lead from the component cable and plugging it into the yellow composite to see if the tv is even seeing the ps2. [nope] No sound, no video, nothing, nada, zilch.

No video on PS2 | AVS Forum

My PS2 was in RGB output mode when I set it up a little while ago and my component inputs on my receiver wouldn't accept it, so maybe you're having the same issue. I had to change the video output mode blind to YPbPr to get a picture since there's no "power button" reset method on the PS2.

The cable that came with your PS2 carries two audio connections (left+right) and composite video (i.e. all the video information "composed" into a single analog signal). The adapter block you plug that into is just a convenience so that TVs with both SCART and ordinary composite video connections can be used with a single cable.

There's an option in the PS2 menu that says something like "Audio out" and you can set to Optical or Component (or "Digital audio output " On, Off, I don't remember quite right), you could try that. If that doesn't work and the video comes fine out of the composite cable and the audio out of the optical, I suggest you just let it go.

Playstation 2 powers up, no audio, no video... - …

Playstation 2 powers up. I get both the red and green power light. Fan works too. As far as I can hear the disc spins too. But no audio and no video. The TV screen shows a white flash when I power the PS2 up, so there is some activity, but it remains black afterwards... I cleaned the console and checked all 16 fuses on the motherboard.
