Oh, and there's a remote to control all the switching. In use, the GCPH is immensely capable. It's very quiet, too, with low levels of hum and hiss. It's as transparent and clean a phono stage as we've heard at this kind of money. Composed with all music This PS Audio is a precise, detailed performer that doesn't get fazed by musical complexity.

The GCPH is attached to a SOTA Sapphire. I got the GCPH because I really liked the other PS Audio products, so I chose it for my second turntable. This is probably the noisiest product made by PS Audio, particularly if the front volume control exceeds the 2 pm position.

PS Audio GCPH phono preamplifier - Stereophile.com

PS Audio's first product, back in 1973, was a standalone phono stage; more recently, their PCA-2 preamp had an optional phono board. The GCC-100 integrated amplifier that I review this month has no room inside for a phono board, so they've gone back to producing a separate phono stage: the GCPH ($995). Like the other products in PS Audio's current line, this …

Setting the loading down to 100 Ohms improves noise a bit. The noise was not all hum, but mostly white thermal noise, which means the transformer orientation inside the GCPH is OK. At the volume control setting of 1:30 (12 being straight up), I measure the gain at 40 dB with 3 mV (at 1000 Hz) in, 300 mV out. Considerably under the 48 dB stated.

PS Audio GCPH Phono Preamplifier - Audiophile Audition

The PS Audio was not as sweet or smooth, but offered deeper bass, more punch, and more drive. Images were more present and there was more distinct separation between them. The sound was more ‘there’ but lacked the ease and delicacy of the Whest. Another track that exhibited some of the same qualities was “Good Times” from Chic’s Greatest Hits.

i own the GCPH Phono stage and love it. I use it with a Cayin integrated tube amp and it retains all the warmness of the tube sound. Sounds very neutral to these ears, is dead quiet, love the volume control, and the mono switch. Great bang for the buck in my estimation. dgstrat,Feb 4, 2008 #6 lovetolistenNew Member Location:
