PS Audio has just released new DAC that is the successor to the D-Link III and is in the same price range as the D-Link III. It is very new and have seen no reviews of it yet. That should make a used D-Link III even more affordable. As good as this DAC is, I wonder how much better PS Audio's new DAC might be compared to the D-Link III.

Imaging, soundstage depth and width are comparable. The DLIII is warmer, more musical (to my ears), more analog like, has fuller bass, and is more enjoyable. It was a close call but, in the end, I returned the DAC1 and kept the DLIII. Associated equipment: Conrad Johnson PV14L pre.

Re: PS Audio Digital Link III DAC. I suspect the designer wanted to run the DAC chip at its optimal rate. Defeating the SRC would thus degrade the DAC's behavior. I think most of the manufacturers including PS Audio and Benchmark Media do upsampling or Asynchronous Reclocking with Upsampling to reduce jitter.

PS Audio just came out with a new DAC, the NuWave for $995 to replace the Digital Link III, therefore the big price drop. I'm pairing it with a Berning micro-ZOTL Amplifier that I bought several years ago but rarely used. If it works out, I will be selling the Burson Audio HA-160DS that I presently use with my Macbook Air.
