DESCRIPTION. Digital-to-Analog Converter Stereo D/A converter,192kHz/24-bit with 8X oversampling filter,3 digital audio inputs - optical, coaxial. [Apr 09, 2009] medwardo. Audio Enthusiast. PS Audio Digital Link III Product Review - Audiophile Style

It's well known that PS Audio manufacturers some great products. But, the one I've really had my eye on for quite some time is the Digital Link III digital audio converter (DAC). The DLIII is a great looking product. It matches the styling and build quality of other Trio Series products, like the GCHA headphone amp, perfectly.

Reviews PS Audio Digital Link III DAC After introducing one of the first commercial DACs on the market back in the ’80s, PS Audio revisits the original DL and adds 96 kHz and 192 kHz upsampling for basically the same cost ($1000). This well-built unit is elegant but simple, and easy to use as well.

PS Audio Digital Link III DAC - Stereophile.com

Digital Link III has more authority and bass (it is DC coupled design, no capacitor in signal path). Contrary to what PS Audio advertise, I did not find the Digital Link III warm, it was as detailed and as neutral as the DAC 1. Except this authority in music and more bass, I could not find any major difference.

DLIII simply rocks along with taut, deep, PRATTY bass that serves dynamic music very well while avoiding the artificially iron-hard bass that can fatigue you over time. Midrange sounds very good, too, in line with qualities of treble/bass. But it's here that Oritek pulls ahead by a significant margin.

A few notes about the PS Audio, it has automatic switching between it's 3 inputs (USB,optical and coax) there is no power switch and you can switch between 96 and 192khz upsampling (I have yet to experiment with the difference here). Build quality is superb and is quite heavy for such a small thing, I believe there is a large transformer inside.

It's the DAC's job to convert digital bits back into music, and how well it performs can mean the difference between thin, threadbare sound and a richly detailed musical presentation. This is where PS Audio's amazing Digital Link III DAC comes in. KEEP READING Product highlights: 3 digital audio inputs — optical, coaxial, and USB (Type B)

I've seen the PS Audio Digilink III on audiogon for $500-$600. I would also consider a used Marantz SA8001 (thre's one for sale on audiogon right now for $600) or the SA8003 to get that tube sound. Pass Labs X250 amp, BAT Vk-51se Preamp,
