The M-Audio stuff seems to sound "cheaper" IMHO and perhaps more digital. Not that the Presonus stuff is high-end or anything but the mic pres are pretty flattering on everything we throw at them. Very very good for the money (better than most), especially if you lack the funding to buy some nicer front-end units along with some high-end AD/DA converters.

The Presonus audiobox is a terrible piece of gear. The headphone quality is horrendously thin. It's been talked about on the Presonus forum and Gearslutz. I bought one from Sweetwater and returned it. For entry level stuff I'd definitely stick with the m-audio fasttrack stuff. I use an m-audio ProFire 610 and it's rock solid.

M-Audio has been really up with drivers too, which is quite encouraging. I will really check out the Focusrite!!
