Not sure of the PreSonus but the M-Audio 410 requires a TI (Texas Instruments) firewire chipset or you will be plauged with static in your recordings. Most computers (PC's - not sure of Mac's) have the VIA chipset as does mine. There is an easy fix for this by getting a TI FireWire card. Here is a thread on the Audio Forums page that describes ...

I'm looking to do a major upgrade to my desktop PC soundcard. I've never done any recording, but plan on dabbling a bit. Plus I would like the option to record audio in the field with my laptop. Presonus Firebox, M-Audio Firewire 410 or Edirol FA-66? Hello people, I'm in a hurry to get one of these audio interfaces for a notebook. I'll use it mainly in my PC with Sonar, but I'll also need to use it first in a Macbook. I googled a lot about those cards and I've seen plenty of good and bad comments about all of the three choices.

M-Audio vs. Presonus I'm looking at Both a new M-Audio and Presonus interface. Firewire 410 vs. a Firebox. Have you guys had experience with either? and if so any opinions? In any event...firewire for $299 = Presonus firebox with Cuebase LE Amazon is selling the M-Audio Audiophile 192 for $129 currently (on special), so that leaves (299-129)=$170 towards buying something like Cubebase SX or Pro Tools (Maudio Protools $250). The 2496 is only $89 at Amazon currently.

I just picked up a Presonus Firebox today after having somewhat nightmarish problems with M-Audio's Firewire 410. I have a brand new (March '08 version) Macbook Pro 15". The Firebox works fine after doing the strange A/C wall trick. So, keep the A/C power plug in before and while booting the laptop.
