I bought these brand new. I spent 2 hours listening to all the top end speakers at the time and the Polk Monitor 10 Series II stood out then and they haven't made anything better since. I bought a pair of LSIM Towers and set one up. I sent them back. My Monitor 10 Series II sounded as good as the new ones.

Original Monitor Series Model 10 had uncoated paper passive radiator (PR). The earlier 10A would have had the coated PR and "midwoofers" that look like yours -- but they would still have had the "super-Velcro" fittings for the grilles. Cf. my 1977-ish (manufacturing date; I got 'em as demos in'78) Model 7A):

These were the dual 6.5" woofers with a passive radiator and a dome tweeter. The original model 10's had the black tweeter. The later versions had a silver tweeter that sounded better and was much more reliable. I replaced a ton of those old black tweeters. The 10's and 12's were my favorite Polk speakers from that era.

Yes, that is a Monitor 10B. The Monitor 11 has a specific left and right speaker, the 10 does not. You would do well to replace those awful SL2000 tweeters with the RD0194-1 available from Polk. Upgrading the crossovers with high quality film/foil caps and Mills resistors will net you vast improvements as well.
