    I then tried doing it via the Media Tool which almost worked. Meaning: split your seqeunce in two, play each half, take the offending one, split in half again, etc., until you find the offending segment or transition.

    This is a hunch, but in my experience PMM Insufficient Media errors in audio are usually something where Media Composer is looking for a certain number of frames, but the number of frames is slightly different in the sequence. In your case my guess is this is being caused by MC adjusting the frame rate of your 50fps material in your 24fps sequence.
