I'm not even seeing any controller options in the audiosurf game, which makes me think the game responds to controller input automatically. It is, I use an Xbox 360 controller, and the game supports rumble and any ship's specials are already mapped to the shoulder buttons. Because most modes only have 3 lanes, I pretty much always play with a controller.
