Pink Floyd audiophile recordings. One often hears how Pink Floyd albums are regarded as being of the audiophile quality (since they were dedicating a lot of time and effort while recording/mixing and mastering them in the studio). However, my impressions so far confirm that only "Wish You Were Here" offers good sound, while pretty much all of their other …

Please re-read my post. I'm saying, that other albums (the later ones) are recorded better (sound better). Nothing to do with musical quality. In other words: the earlier albums are not as well recorded, but offer riches of musicality & imagination, that later "Pink Floyd" (= Gilmour Solo) can only dream of.

That said, I feel Wish You Were Here is the best sounding album followed by The Wall and Dark Side Of The Moon. Although I owned all of these albums on vinyl during the 70s, my opinion is based on early production cds I own now. I dumped my vinyl 20 years ago. When I sold my albums, The Wall was the album which brought the highest price.

It is the standard that audiophile equipment and recording processes aspire to though - not changing the wave form from input to output. Whereas Pink Floyd were always processing waveforms to change them.

IMHO, The Final Cut and The Wall are the Audiophile stand-outs in the Pink Floyd catalogue. As far as DSOTM goes, IMHO it is overrated as an audiophile recording - gritty hi-hats and plenty of compression and distortion in the busier parts of the album - the album itself being an enduring masterpiece aside.

Probably one of the best live recordings to come out of the MTV unplugged series. This is a must on a good pair of open back headphones like the Philips Fidelio X2HR’s. This is one of those tracks that sounds good on almost all equipment but really stands out on a good audiophile setup. Audiophile Track# 5 – Time by Pink Floyd

Anyway, I downloaded all the new high-res albums from "A Saucerful of Secrets" to "A Momentary Lapse of Reasons" with the exception of the Pink Floyd live albums and samplers from Qobuz. Having cross-listened to all albums in the meantime, my first impression is that it's worth listening to the "old" albums up to "Meddle" in High-Res above all.

The albums have been painstakingly remastered from the original analogue tapes by James Guthrie, Joel Plante, and Bernie Grundman. "Pink Floyd's most elaborately theatrical album was inspired by their own success: the alienating enormity of their tours after The Dark Side of the Moon, which was when bassist-lyricist Roger Waters first hit upon ...
