    PulseAudio is setup with defaults. I use Pidgin as my instant messenger. I am currently using Clementine as my music player.     Going into gstreamer-properties and switching to pulseaudio fixed it. Using anything else under Ubuntu still goes through pulseaudio. It has been awhile but I think I had it set to sdl or alsa and whatever it was pidgin didn't like it as well as using the direct pulseaudio interface.
