The D5s extend down to 50Hz. This is not common for such a small audiophile grade speaker that retails for $999. I'm sure there are car subwoofers smaller that extend lower but the quality of those speakers is painfully horrendous. The D5s retain good quality sound down to the lowest supported frequencies.

On the other hand, the simple clean lines of the Peachtree amps and speakers, will blend in almost anywhere. I feel confidant that you will like to sound of the D5's. If you do feel like you need a bit more oomph in the lower registers, you can and a small sub, anytime in the future. The D5's make excellent HT speakers.

The Peachtree Audio D5 is a larger bookshelf speaker than our enthusiastically-reviewed D4. Engineered for larger spaces, the D5 will reach authoritatively down to 50 Hz - a level of bass reproduction unheard of in a speaker this size. The result - when blended with our smooth-as-silk dome tweeter - is breathtaking.

These D5 speakers driven by a reasonable amp are as musical as I've heard and in a moderate sized room provide a full level of bass that sounds very natural and well integrated. My favorite combo is with an inexpensive but lightly restored Scott 222C amplifier (listening to vinyl in that setup with a Technics turntable).

Watch for an upcoming review of the D5’s. After extensive listening, all of the NOVA’s sins are those of omission. It could certainly use more refinement in the highs and control in the lows. But then it would cost $4,000. The difference between the …

6moons audio reviews: Era D4 & D5

The D5 sounds fuller and more robust and much more satisfying than any speaker I know of at low volumes, making it a fantastic choice for apartment dwellers or anybody who must restrict volume levels. At mid 60dB levels in my room, the D5s produced music with unusual completeness and competence.
