You will need a DAC that accepts optical aka toslink and has XLR outputs. Or you could use RCA to XLR cables or use one of the single-ended inputs on the Ayre. But as far as I can tell, the Arye does NOT accept digital inputs, where toslink, co-ax, aes/ebu, ATT, or I2S. OTOH, you may be able to get an analog audio signal from your cable box.

I have a device that outputs digital audio via optical, and I need to go into a device that takes an AES3/EBU (XLR) digital input. Does anyone know of an adapter, cord, or some other passthrough device than can do this? Alternatively, is there something that goes from digital optical to analog stereo RCA? I've searched with Google, but I can't find anything.
