    https://github.com/OpenELEC/OpenELEC.tv/issues/3251
Hi Openelec, Because the 3,5 mm jack of Raspberry Pi has such a poor sound quality to be used on a proper stereo amplifier, it could be an idea to integrate the wolfson audio card and/or hifiberry card drivers into openelec! At the momen...

Go to Kodi system settings and change the audio output device to ALSA (snd_rpi_wsp S/PDIF) Upgrading from OpenELEC 6.x: A manual update with the tar file should work just fine but can't be 100% guaranteed - better make a backup of your SD card in case something goes wrong.

I can tell you with absolute certainty that the CirrusLogic / Wolfson Audio Cards are not compatible with the Raspberry Pi Model 2. Period. Another problem is that the drivers that allegedly "work" with the RPi Model 1 (A, B, A+, B+) are …

Both Pis have been overclocked and are on the latest XBMC and Openelec versions. Any thoughts would be appreciated! The Wolfson card only mates to the Revision 2 Raspberry Pi - it's a different board layout to the earlier version - your 2 year old board will certainly be revision 1 and the other could also be a '1'.

Wolfson audio card, when will drivers be available for Raspbmc

    https://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?tid=198076
If wolfson is supported by kernel, then it will be supported by xbmc. You should petition wolfson to submit a pull request to add support for their card to standard raspberry pi kernel. The hifiberry card is supported by kernel (and so raspbmc) so may be a better choice. There is a custom openelec build here that supports wolfson:

Then came the Wolfson Audio card and reading the spec convinced me I should buy into this idea. The Wolfson Audio Card is a daughter board for the Revision 2 Raspberry Pi and potentially could reduce my power consumption even further by replacing my Squeezebox Touch, Musical Fidelity V-DAC and their 2 linear power supplies.

Just like your setup I am also using Raspberry B and Wolfson DAC and the audio output is really very good, certainly better that my Audio Research CD Player and DAC when playing hires (.44.1khz) files. I have recently used the OpenELEC version 5.0.6 and Hiassofts's replacement for the Wolfson Audio card.
