- The digital audio assignment on the receiver is correct; ie if you connected the cable box to the receiver's video1 input and the optical cable to optical 1 make sure optical 1 is assigned to video1. You do that by selecting video1 and then pressing the digital input button until it reads 'opt 1'. Make sure no other input is assigned to optical 1.

When you would bump them and all of a sudden the tv image would glitch for a moment then return to normal. It does that, but the audio cuts out at the same time too. The screen on the receiver will literally go from reading PLII Music or Movie to being completely blank. It's a very vexing issue.

I have had an Onkyo surround system for a few years now. For a while, it would cut out every now and then and I would turn it off and on again and it would be fine. Lately, I can't get it to work at all. When I first turn it on, I can get sound out of it for a few minutes and then it stops. The receiver does not turn off, but the sound just stops.
