When I use the laptop's microphone to record, the OneNote recording now has lots of noise in it. The laptop recorder works fine with other apps, like voice recorder.

I record audio in OneNote all the time but that's mainly because I'm recording from a phone into OneNote Mobile. I recorded one this morning and annotated it. However, I don't count on the audio quality being that great since the goal is to simply capture the ideas. So if I need better audio quality on the computer I use a different program.

You can up the quality and codec but the size is huge and it records a lot of noise. Also WMAV was made for voice and filters out some noise. Onenote options. This worked for me in OneNote 2013, and I believe OneNote 2016 has a very similar option. Basically, by default the audio recording quality is set to the worst, and you have to change it.
