Quality of Realtek HD onboard audio? | Headphone Reviews ...

Going from onboard audio to a stand alone sound card is an improvement if you get a good one. The onboard cards usually suck with settings as well. Not much more in my opinion though, I don't believe noise really factors into anything noticeable. Especially if you use a digital output to a stand alone DAC. Mar 25, 2010 at 4:11 PM Post #3 of 19

Feb 13, 2016. 35,981. 143,220. Seattle Area. #1. This is a detailed measurement of the RealTek HD audio interface in my Dell XPS8930 Desktop system. The XPS 8930 retails for US $1,200 as of this writing so not a low-end desktop tower. Try as I might, I could not find the identity of the RealTek CODEC (ADC/DAC) used in it.

Realtek HD integrated audio | Headphone Reviews and ...

Onboard audio is generally very low quality; you would likely hear a large difference between integrated audio and even a cheap solution like the Fiio E10. If you don't need an amp, I found the Hifimediy Sabre dac to be a night and day improvement from integrated for cheap.

Onboard Audio vs Dedicated Sound Card impressions …

Sounds kind of run together now, there’s less airiness and less instrument separation. The smoothness and silkiness that I got used to on ST is gone. The sound is unbalanced: the lows are overbearing, the highs are rolled off. The sizzle and sparkle I heard on acoustic guitars is gone. The vocals sound more robotic.

Is the Realtek HD sound card good enough ? | HomeRecording.com

If the Realtek has 5.1 or better surround sound you can do some cool stuff with it. I used the Realtek for quite a while before I just got fed up. That said, I ended up with an M-Audio Fast Track pro USB interface for one simple reason – phantom power, well two reasons, that and SPDIF connections and MIDI.
