    45. Posted May 15, 2017. Many motherboards come with 7.1 surround connections these days. I have one from 2010 with a 5.1 connection setup. My first suggestion would be compare the specifications on the onboard audio chipset vs. the dedicated board. Second, compare the software options each one offers you.

Onboard sound is a bit of a luck of a draw, I don't trust so much into the capabilities of whoever designs the onboard audio part of the motherboard, I'm sure it's not so much effort put into so I imagine it varies quite a bit from one manufacturer to another how it sounds, at least ASrock that has been using pretty much the same amp config ...

Well if the soundcard isn't showing up in both Device Manager and under Sound, and you say it's enabled in the BIOS, and that you tried installing the audio drivers, then yeah, the card might be dead. Odd though, cause even if the card was dead, and you had in enabled in the BIOS it would show as a device with a problem.

My real issue is the crashes I sometime get consistently that I'm fairly certain have to do with my onboard audio card. My motherboard has a realtek high definition audio onbaord card and I'm pretty sure it's causing these crashes. I have read alot about this audio card causing issues in various other PC games.
