You're correct on placement... affix the damping material to the back of the speaker cabinet and then put the polyfill back between it and the drivers. I'm not sure about the No Rez, but the Blackhole 5 is 1.375" thick (from Sonic Craft's website). They sell it in large 24" x 27" sheets for $69.95, but right now they are running a 20% off sale.

Spring-mass systems like crankshaft "dampers" don't work like these bond ons, I have used a similar material called coustilam fs, the inner layer damps the panel it is on (a tiny bit) the lead barrier is a good sound barrier because of its density and the inner foam reduces internal reflections.
