    -Click on start>control panel>switch to classic view>sound>Recording tab>Right click in the empty space under select recording device>show disabled devices>if microphone is disabled enable it -Try rebooting you computer and let Windows Vista redetect your soundcard again.

    I think Microsoft did that on purpose...But i don't know the reason...In previous versions you just go to sound card console, check the box of mic fader, plug a microphone in mic input and listen your voice without hit record button...So simple...In Vista the mic input level show that it receive sound but you can't listen it!!!
