    BTW, working with Gigabyte, I think I ruled out the driver causing this. Using the driver that shipped with Vista or the new one from Realtek made no difference. I even uninstalled the sounddriver (via the device manager) and put the computer to sleep. Upon waking up the computer, sometimes Vista detects the audio device and reinstalls the driver.
