I have Windows 98SE, IE6SP1. Yesterday, by mistake, I am sure I deleted the sound driver as I do not have any sound. I had deleted AVG antivirus to reinstall it. In one of the folders I saw avgdr and figured it was connected to the AVG antivirus. I deleted that, too. So now no sound at all. I sure miss having sound.

Re: Windows 98SE install no sound in dos game. It was not uncommon to have volume issues like that, there was no particular standard on how loud something was. I just downloaded VirtualBox and got Windows 98SE installed (along with the scitech drivers) and it boots wonderfully, complete with the old windows login sound effect. However, when I try to install games (I've tried Diablo 1 and Dune 2000 so far) they load without sound of any kind, no SFX or music.

To start simply, right click your sound icon , select 'Open volume controls' and make sure nothing is muted. Then right click again and select 'Adjust audio properties' and see if your soundcard is selected in the drop-down menu. If it is, and you still have no sound, select 'use any available device' and see if that works.
