I have Windows 98SE, IE6SP1. Yesterday, by mistake, I am sure I deleted the sound driver as I do not have any sound. I had deleted AVG antivirus to reinstall it. In one of the folders I saw avgdr and figured it was connected to the AVG antivirus. I deleted that, too. So now no sound at all. I sure miss having sound.

Back in the "old days" there was a separate analog audio cable from the CD-ROM drive to the sound card. 2GB is a HUGE amount of memory for a Win9x system.

I just downloaded VirtualBox and got Windows 98SE installed (along with the scitech drivers) and it boots wonderfully, complete with the old windows login sound effect. However, when I try to install games (I've tried Diablo 1 and Dune 2000 so far) they load without sound of any kind, no SFX or music.

To start simply, right click your sound icon , select 'Open volume controls' and make sure nothing is muted. Then right click again and select 'Adjust audio properties' and see if your soundcard is selected in the drop-down menu. If it is, and you still have no sound, select 'use any available device' and see if that works.

Its very great if you want to reinstall a broken windows 98 SE or just want a VM instead then its good! But there a problem.
