While common knowledge to most hobbyists, it does little to help with off axis listening in the nearfield as there's and overall smaller area available to the listener and a shorter distance for allowing the individual drivers to sum. These observations would suggest best results with a 'smalller' speaker and obviously smaller drivers.

The nearfield sound isn't bad at all (actually still quite enjoyable), but there are better choices if listening exclusively in nearfield. For my near+mid dual purpose, I have to decide where to make tradeoffs. I'll continue burning in the S400 and experiment with positioning and toe-in before more comparison with the P3ESR.

The aural experience is total immersion with near field listening. Now some types of speakers do not lend themselves to being so close. Planar’s, Electrostatic’s, Bi-Poles and Di-Poles, would be a challenge, along with large floor standing speakers. My listening room is totally a near field sound space.

Nearfield is the near exclusive preserve of active studio monitors. If you prefer more colored sound, get some sort of DSP or EQ in your system, but if I were you I would give it some time to "break in" your ears and get them accustomed to the more accurate and neutral reproduction. I myself use Genelec 6010As for this purpose. 3 level 2

Nearfield monitors are designed for a flat frequency response though I have no idea about your speakers. Monitors are not made to sound good but creating a downward tilted EQ curve for more bass and less treble might help.
