Naim Nait 5i-2 - High-End Audio Discussion Forum

The CD5i-2 is an excellent CDP. Their was a bigger leap forward with the CD5i to CD5i-2 than the Nait 5i IMO. The main difference is the old CD5i had hard edge in the highs, the 5i-2 got rid of it. Their should be some reviews of the original CD5i out there. They're pretty similar, but the 5i-2 is a good bit more refined overall. Log in to respond

For all that its most recent products are geared towards an all-embracing, all-inclusive future (we're thinking specifically of the Uniti and HDX), there's still more quirk about Naim's Nait 5i than most manufacturers would dare to serve up. The fascia-mounted 3.5mm input may suggest pragmatism, but the pair of DIN inputs around the back (alongside four stereo …

This is the 5i "italic" (i.e. version 2) that has the front panel iPod input. The amp has the distinctive and very pleasing Naim "PRatT", or pace, rhythm, and timing, which makes for a very lively and punchy sound. The music remains very natural sounding, but just seems to have more impact than I've heard with other amps.

The Naim Nait5i is a 50wpc (8ohm) integrated amplifier with four line-level inputs. This makes it both small by current standards, and of limited flexibility. The traditional 5-pin DIN input sockets are still there for two of the inputs (for CD and, improbably, tuner), though the other two inputs (AV and Tape) are RCA-only, and even the CD and ...

The Naim Audio Nait 2 uses discrete transistors exclusively instead of op-amps. Component quality is very high, with almost no carbon resistors and very few capacitors. The circuitry is densely packed into the small, double-sided PCB. Although not large, the heatsink is bolted to the aluminum chassis, increasing its effectiveness.
