The CD 3.5 doesn't look fancy. It's less than 3" tall and is 12" deep and 17" wide. Its case is metal, with a black crinkle finish, and its faceplate is sparsely populated. On the left is a hinged drawer, which the user must pull open by hand to load and empty the player.

This is for the Naim CD3.5 which has had the ALW-Audio super regulator upgrade. This is a considerable upgrade for the 3.5, and leapfrogs the player in terms of sound quality another dimension. Having heard numerous so called high end players, I can only conclude that the CD3.5 is the bargain of the decade.

Review: Naim Audio CD-3.5 CD Player - High-End Audio ...

The CD 3.5 has a brighter sound than its predecessor, the CD 3. This results in improved imaging and clarity, and a greater sense of realism. However, the CD 3 had an incredible midrange that to some ears (i.e. my wife’s) made the unit sound better than the 3.5. On the whole I would take the 3.5 over the 3, but I missed the 3’s midrange too.

The Naim CD 3.5 is a great player—one with no real weaknesses and some very attractive strengths. One of the latter is that it costs only $2150—not cheap, of course, but none too shabby for sound approaching the state of the art.

I sold that player and replaced with the CD3.5. The overall sound was very similar but with better detail , bass extension and imaging. I then added a FlatCap and then things really started to come to life. Everything became more defined with a more solid sound and an …

Weakness: Sounds compact with very little of the 3rd dimension. To expensive. Talking about the CD5x. A good but over-rated product by the best audio marketing company of the world. I've tested the Naim in four different contexts: three different dealers (3 systems), with and without Flatcap, and at home to finish.

I raved about Naim's entry-level player in the very first issue of Listener magazine (published in January 1995), and eventually bought the review sample, which I kept and enjoyed for another five or six years: an eternity in digital audio. The CD3's arrival seemed to herald an even keener interest on Naim's part in developing new digital ...

This CD3 sound is very dynamic, rhytmical, natural sounding. both before and even more - after lampization. Back-lit naim logo. Very narcistic The green PCB is screaming "NAIM job !!!". so fanatical about star grounding, tantalum caps and regulation by LM317. I think that using tantalum caps is a decisive factor in creation of NAIM house sound.
