Music Fidelity V DAC vs Cambridge Audio Dacmagic

Given how the 192 transformed my Bifrost from very good to outstanding, my money would be on the V DAC. MF seems to know what they are doing when it comes to most things related to digital music. The Dacmagic I had (the first version) was just OK and it took a lot of tweaking to get it to sound anywhere near good.

More Musical Fidelity V-DAC versus the Cambridge Audio DacMagic. Over the past day I’ve had a chance to listen to the comparison in two systems, both this time, using the coax S/PDIF input. Overall I prefer the Cambridge DacMagic. The DM is a little more even handed: on first listen it sounds a little flatter than the V-DAC but after a while ...

Even more Musical Fidelity V-DAC versus the Cambridge Audio DacMagic. I was listening yesterday to the Cambridge DacMagic connected to my HP2133 via USB. Musical Fidelity has a real winner on its hands. The V-DAC is simple to use, costs little, and it fits right into almost any audio set up. Taking the company’s dedication to great sound, the V-DAC can help turn even a modest sound system into a great one. And those pesky CDs don’t have to sit in the dust anymore.

I'm also familiar with the V-Dac from Musical Fidelity (again from 4-5 years ago). Frankly, to me, both of them sound pretty much the same. I'd say that the DacMagic has a slightly brighter sound, and so it sounds more open. Its high-frequency sounds a bit artificial to me. The V-Dac has a slightly warmer sound. NAD amps sound warm to me.

I've looked at Wyred 4 Sound DAC-1, Musical Fidelity V-DAC II, Cambridge Audio DacMagic Plus, and the Rega DAC. The DacMagic Plus got some bad reviews for tonal distortion (my main objective is absolutely neutral audio reproduction), the Rega DAC seems overly complicated, and I'm suspicious of the V-DAC II, given the low price point compared to ...
