No Sound in N64 mupen64 - RetroPie Forum

I was using mupen64 Auto at first. Then I tried the lr-mupen64. With that emulator, I get audio, but the game is completely unplayable, about 5 fps, broken graphics, etc. I tried the other mupen64 cores and none of them send sound out of the 3.5mm jack. I tried everything to edit the mupen64plus.cfg file and change OUTPUT_PORT from 1 to 0.

The TIME_COMPENSATION audio config setting allows you to disable the speed gate inside the audio plugin, so that you can gate the speed instead in the vi interrupt routine. This does work acceptably in fast mode, but it has problems in either normal speed or slow mode. In slow mode there are gaps between sound chunks, or no sound at all.

It's because mupen64 is set to auto config the audio whenever you start a game. Navigate to: /opt/retropie/configs/all/autoconf.cfg. Change the line: mupen64plus_audio = "1" change the 1 to a 0 and save. Then go back to mupen64plus.cfg make your change and it won't revert back. 5.

mupen64plus_audio = "0" Mupen64 will now default to using the SDL audio plugin. This will allow save states to work properly and the volume is set to a much more reasonable level. One thing I noticed though with SDL audio is that the audio crackles. I saw reports of this on several threads on the official forum but with no solution listed.
