If you are talking about Mupen64plus FZ. It really depends on your device. For older devices defaults will probably work fine. For newer devices, I would try the more accurate emulation profiles, like GLideN64-Medium or GLideN64-Accurate. Also, I would adjust the audio settings and change the "audio buffer number" to the lowest your device can handle without getting sound …

Mupen64plus's audio popping (Windows 10) · Issue #571 ...

    https://github.com/mupen64plus/mupen64plus-core/issues/571
It tries to keep the buffer size between 20ms and 300ms, so that if there is a hiccup, there should be a 20ms buffer that can keep playing, to try and avoid pops. Increasing that value may help, but it would also increase the audio delay (the audio plays slightly late). In mupen64plus-ae, audio stretching is used to try and avoid these issues.

I don't think Azimer's audio plugin supports Mupen64Plus, but that would be the best one to port if any. @thecoreyburton @zeromus UPDATE: Azimer's audio plugin will support Mupen64Plus in the next release, so that's cool. We could switch to that, or update Mupen64Plus' audio plugin, or both. Azimer's plugin is way better, in my experience.

9 Apr 2020, 15:44. @quicksilver I went for a variation on your suggestion, I had a look at the audio settings for lr-mupen64plus-next and increased Audio Latency (ms) to 512 (from 64). It seems to have smoothed out most of the audio issues I have. The game still doesn't run at 100% speed but it is well playable.
