The GM300 audio amplifier drives both sides of the loudspeaker. Therefore you must NOT ground either pin 1 or pin 16 of the accessory connector. You must run two wires to an external speaker. The same circuit design and components are used on the Spectra radios and they suffer from the same restriction.

Without that amp, you are just not going to get enough audio. Something like this should work: At the radio end, the shield needs to go to ground, pin 4 on the GM300. Mic audio will go to pin 5 on the GM300. If your mic is good, that amp should boost the audio up enough to be useable. Capacitor can be a .1uF or so. Joe K7JEM, Aug 6, 2013 #7
