OK, thinking very Wal-Mart here.. but have you considered just getting an A-dap-tur cassette that drops into the monsoon cassette deck and has a 2.5mm plug for the Ipod? The first thing my audio friend says has to go in any audio system is the speakers. Upgrading car speakers, esp. in a VW, seems like a not-casual effort.

Monsoon also made a surround sound version with four panels and a larger subwoofer. There is no center channel. I use this one in my travel trailer. Again, first rate. The monsoon includes different deck, amp and speakers. The deck is crap, the amp/speakers are not bad. no point in buying one if it didn't come with the car, just upgrade to soemthing better for less money. Does your stereo have separate tweeters mounted high and forward on each door?
