						https://forum.videohelp.com/threads/393991-batch-Mkvmerge-to-select-only-the-AC3-audio-and-ignore-any-AAC-audio
The ac3 audio is sometimes the 2nd audio and sometimes the 1st audio, so telling mkvmerge to grab solely audio 0 or audio 1 will not work. Is there a command available that will tell mkvmerge to grab only the ac3 audio file and ignore the aac audio file? Quote 10th Aug 2019 07:39 #2 sneaker Member Sep 2014 There is no such mkvmerge command. Quote

Launch the program "mkvextractgui.exe" and open your file with your original dts soundtrack by clicking on the " add " option. In the field where the tracks appear, uncheck the DTS soundtrack. Re-click on add and will seek your soundtrack in AC3. Then check off. Click on Start Mixing and it should be ok. Photo by Kaitlyn Baker on Unsplash

And when I open the mkv file, it plays video but no sound. However, the separate AC3 file is read correctly in, for example, VLC player, or if I import it back into FCPX, it is also just audio. Incidentally, with an AAC file (audio) it goes well but I think AC3 sounds better…. It did, I know! Since when, unfortunately I cannot indicate….

Also if you have 2 mkvs and you are trying to replace the audio of video A with the audio of video B there is no need to extract audio from video B first. Just add both Mkvs to MKVToolnix at the same time and select which tracks to keep and which ones to drop and remux.

Add Stereo Audio Tracks to MKV Files - Savvy Admin

If you have Matroska Video (MKV) files encoded with AC3 Dolby Digital 5.1 or DTS audio tracks, you may want to simply extract the audio, convert it to a 2-channel stereo format like WAV, MP3 OGG, etc, and then add it back into the MKV as a separate audio track.

						TrueHD/AC3 Core??? [Archive] - Doom9's Forum
						https://forum.doom9.org/archive/index.php/t-155499.html
Converting from (2) to (1) is more difficult: The TrueHD stream must be decoded and reencoded to AC3 and then the AC3 frames must be injected into the TrueHD stream in a specific way. When muxing to MKV, the AC3 frames are usually removed, so MKV TrueHD streams are usually type (2).
