Silver Mica vs Ceramic caps for treble?

    https://el34world.com/Forum/index.php?topic=20422.0
I usually use a mix of polystyrene and C0G ceramics. Had a bad experience with some silver mica caps, which turned out to be microphonic, and stopped using them. Distortion generated by old ceramic caps in an RC filter is severe compared with C0G, and things in an CR filter are much worse, in the neighbourhood of 1% at low frequencies.

Audiophile Grade Capacitors

We have conducted both computerized signal analysis and blind listening tests using various capacitor dielectric types including aluminum, tantalum, silver-mica, ceramic, polyester, polystyrene and polypropylene. Our tests revealed that a single coupling capacitor of the wrong type can noticeably degrade sound quality.

Capacitor sound quality, silver mica in particular | diyAudio

The only ones immune are stacked ceramic using a non piezoelectric ceramic, stacked film types (shame Siemens/Epcos x'ed the polycarbonat ones!) and stacked silver mica (rolled silver mica are as bad as rolled film, in experience) or Micamold. So, where voltages are low and signal levels high rolled film may very well do better than silver mica.

Mica Ceramic | McMaster-Carr

Also known as Macor, this glass-mica ceramic withstands temperatures up to 1470° F. You can machine complicated shapes and precision parts from it in a fraction of the time it would take using other types of fired ceramic. Its good electrical and thermal resistance make it a common choice for heating and soldering fixtures.. For technical drawings and 3-D models, click on a …
