Pureaudio has in the extensionlist .MP4. If I leave it there, the result is that the pureaudio plugin takes over the playback of the MP4 files even if the file is a movie. In that case the result is that I see a black screen and I only hear the audio. After deleting the .MP4 extention from the pureaudio list, the mp4 movies play fine.
