This seems to be a plugin issue. I had my system totally running fine, then installed a bunch of plugins and started having this problem of Media Composer freezing on 'initializing audio plugins'. So i started uninstalling plugins and it turned out to be the fairchild bundle that was causing the trouble.

I didn't upgrade my OS (I'm on Big Sur 11.6). I didn't install any plugins, nothing obvious like that. I was on MC 21.5 when this started occurring. I updated yesterday to 21.12 to see if that would fix it but it didn't. It's just media composer that freezes by the way. The rest of my apps/system works fine while Avid is frozen in place.
