If you don't plan on using the Mbox for anything but Pro Tools, you're fine, since not installing the Core Audio driver avoids the problem, but you're really rolling the dice if you want to use it as a DAC in any other application. On the other hand, any system you buy today will come with PT 8, so you're at least eligible to beta-test the "fix".

If you are on Snow Leopard use the 8.0.3 Standalone Core Audio Driver. HOWEVER there are serious problems with the standalone and DIGI is working on a fix. Best to install Pro Tools and slect the driver in Ableton. If you are on Windows, for whatever reason, use the Standalone ASIO Driver. PS. The Mbox2 works great with Ableton.
