    In response to InterLingo. So I think the best way to handle this is to go into Audio MIDI Setup utility and create an aggregate device by clicking the plus at the bottom left corner. Add the single unnamed device, and then give it a new aggregate name by double-clicking on the title. Repeat this for each of the unnamed devices.

    The Sound Card’s name comes from the Device itself, which “publishes” its name. The operating system reads the name from there. I don’t believe you can rename it, but you can definitely go to /Applications/Utilities/Audio MIDI Setup and create an Aggregate Audio Device (with the names you want) and select the input/outputs of each.
