yes - if I connect to a different tv/monitor using a HDMI adapter the sound is fine - the problem seems isolated to the DisplayPort output ; The monitor in question is also fine - I have connected a different computer to it using the same cables etc - and the sound is fine. the problem very much seems to relate to displayport output on the Mac.
